Jolt Racing Clinches 2024 GT Cup GTA Championship Title in Debut Season
Jolt Racing are celebrating their championship title success after their driver duo, John Ingram and Rupert Williams, secured the 2024 GT Cup GTA Championship in their debut season in the GT Cup.
The team’s phenomenal first year in the series saw them go from strength to strength on track, culminating in this well-deserved title. Notably, Am driver Rupert Williams made waves with his rapid progression throughout the season in just his second year of circuit racing and first year in GT competition.
Returning to the Norfolk-based Snetterton circuit for the second time this season, Jolt Racing was eager to turn their fortunes around and finish the season on a high after a run of bad luck at Donington Park in the round before.
Saturday morning saw Ingram and Williams secure class pole in the first qualifying session of the weekend, despite tricky conditions caused by oil on the track, putting Ingram in good stead for his sprint race that afternoon.
Unfortunately, despite showing promising pace, Ingram was forced to retire the car early due to a technical issue. However, quick thinking by the team allowed them to repair the car in time to start the later pit-stop race from the pit lane, with Rupert Williams starting behind the wheel.
Williams smashed his personal best lap time early on, once again proving the outstanding progress he’s made this season, and dutifully handed the car over to Ingram in the pit-stop to bring the car home first in class.
After another successful qualifying session on Sunday morning, the duo took on the pit-stop race first this time, securing another class win in Ingram’s last session on the track this season.
Turning to the final sprint race of the 2024 season that afternoon, it was all down to Williams to end the season on a high. He rose to the challenge as he brought the car home first in class—a perfect conclusion to his debut season in GT Racing.
John Ingram, said: “We’re over the moon to secure the GTA Championship title in our debut GT Cup season. This year was very much a development year for us, as we supported Rupert in learning his craft as a full-time Am driver, so we’re elated with the progress this season.”
“Thank you to our incredible team for their relentless dedication behind the scenes, and to our loyal team partners for sharing our passion every step of the way.”
Rupert Williams, said: “What a way to end the season! It’s been a massive learning curve this year, stepping into the McLaren 570S GT4 in only my second year of racing after competing in the C1 Endurance Series last year, but I’m so pleased with the progress.”
“I want to thank our superb team who work tirelessly to keep us on track, our team partners, and my teammate John, who has been a rock in learning, providing invaluable advice throughout the season.”
