Jolt Racing Continue the Momentum With Success at Brands Hatch
Jolt Racing continued to make successful progress in their debut year in the GT Cup Championship with four GTA class wins at Brands Hatch this past weekend (18-19 May).
The team left Brands Hatch standing 8th overall out of 19 entrants in the GT Cup championship, and a solid points lead over strong competition. The #370 Jolt Racing McLaren 570S GT4 is currently the third-ranked GT4 car on the championship table, with only the #9 Aston Martin AMR Vantage GT4 of Forsetti Motorsport and the #31 Mercedes Benz AMG GT4 of Team Parker Racing sitting ahead in the points.
After a successful championship debut at Donington Park last month, where driver lineup John Ingram and Rupert Williams scored three class wins, the team was determined to continue the momentum as they headed to the iconic Kent-based Brands Hatch circuit.
Following a Friday test on the Indy circuit, Saturday saw the field swap over to the GP circuit for the first practice and qualifying sessions of the weekend, during which the team secured pole position in the GTA class for the first race.
After completing that morning’s practice session, Rupert, experiencing the GP circuit for the first time in his career, took charge of the start of the first sprint race. Despite no prior experience on the 3.916km circuit, he delivered a solid performance to bring the car home first-in-class.
The success continued into the afternoon when Rupert completed the first stint in the pit-stop race before John jumped in during the mid-race driver change, resulting in their second class win of the weekend.
Great weather on Sunday attracted the crowds to Brands Hatch for an epic day of racing and after another successful qualifying session from John, the McLaren 570S GT4 lined up on the grid in class pole position for Sunday’s pit-stop race.
Rupert started strong, improving his lap times before handing the car over to John, with the duo securing another GTA class win for the team.
Rupert capped off the weekend with another class win in the final 20-minute sprint race, wrapping up another successful weekend for the team as they continue to make great progress in their GT Cup Championship debut.
Rupert Williams – Driver: “With no prior experience on the GP circuit and only my second event racing at this level, the weekend was a massive learning curve for me. My goal for this weekend was to gain valuable experience and improve my lap times, and that’s exactly what I achieved. I’m really pleased with the progress made both personally and as a team.”
John Ingram – Team Principal and Driver: “This weekend was a fantastic continuation of the results from Donington Park. We’re continuing to make significant progress as a team and are excited to carry this momentum into Snetterton next week.”
The GT Cup Championship continues next week when the series heads to Snetterton on 1-2 June.
